Tread rubber composition and pneumatic tire
United States Patent 11174375 B2 · Filed: 07/22/2019 · Published: 11/16/2021
Assignee:
SUMITOMO RUBBER INDUSTRIES, LTD. (Hyogo, JP)
Inventors:
Watanabe, Kenya (Kobe, JP)
This patent claims a tire tread with a low wet grip temperature and an increased brittleness temperature that are balanced to improve both wet grip and reduce brittleness simultaneously. One key feature is a resin with a softening point of 140-180 OC to optimize both parameters. The best candidate would appear to be a beta-pinene resin.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
The tread rubber composition of the present invention contains a styrene-butadiene rubber and has a tan δ peak temperature of −10° C. or higher and a brittleness temperature of −40° C. or lower. With this tread rubber composition, it is possible to achieve a balanced improvement in wet grip performance and resistance to low-temperature brittleness.
Drug delivery composition containing silyl polymers

The invention relates to a silyl-containing polymer that is used, together with a tackifying resin to form an adhesive composition capable of storing and delivering drugs to the skin of a user. Typically the composition is formed into a patch which shows excellent adhesion to the skin even when drugs and other additives are dissolved into the composition.
Pretty interesting patent.
Rubber composition for tires
United States Patent 11180641 B2 · Filed: 02/22/2017 · Published: 11/23/2021

Inventors:
Kimura, Kazushi (Hiratsuka, JP)

Provided is a rubber composition including: (i) a sulfur vulcanizable elastomer, (ii) carbon black and/or a white filler, and (iii) a microparticle having a three-dimensionally crosslinked structure; the microparticle being a microparticle obtained by three-dimensionally crosslinking a polymer formed from an oligomer or prepolymer that has a sulfide bond formed from two or more sulfur atoms in a main chain and/or that has a thiol group.
This patent isn’t about resins and tire compositions. It’s about new microparticles for tire treads. However, in theory these microparticles could replace resins or even certain polymer grades in tire rubber. It shows what could happen to resin business due to a technical accomplishment on another type of rubber constituent.
Agricultural fluid deposition aid

This patent is about silicone- based compounds as agricultural adjuvants. The subject compounds are surfactants that increase adhesion of active ingredients through optimized spreading on plant surfaces. It is a pretty good discussion of agricultural adjuvants in general.
RUBBER COMPOSITION FOR TYRES WITH GOOD WET GRIP AND ROLLING RESISTANCE PROPERTIES
European Patent EP3749712 B1 · Filed: 02/06/2019 · Published: 11/24/2021

The present invention relates to a cross-linkable rubber composition, a cross-linked rubber composition obtained by cross-linking such a rubber composition, a method of preparing a tyre and a tyre. In a cross-linkable rubber composition the cross-linkable rubber composition comprises, per hundred parts by weight of rubber (phr): ≥ 1 phr to ≤ 100 phr of a rubber component selected from the group of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polybutadiene rubber (BR), natural rubber (NR) or a mixture thereof; ≥ 1 phr to ≤ 50 phr of a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) with a glass transition temperature of ≥ -30 °C (measured by DSC, according to ISO 22768), the composition further comprises an at least partially aliphatic resin component and the composition further comprises a blocked mercaptosilane and/or an unblocked mercaptosilane.
The following series of European patents address the standard properties that tire rubber scientists focus on in their research. They are presented without comment.

RUBBER COMPOSITION FOR TREAD AND TIRE
European Patent EP3533622 B1 · Filed: 02/14/2019 · Published: 11/17/2021
Assignee:
SUMITOMO RUBBER IND (Kobe-shi, Hyogo-ken 651-0072, JP)
Inventors:
HIMEDA SINGO (JP)
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Some tires, in particular, tires for heavy load application for trucks and buses and tires for running on an irregular ground, are provided with independent blocks surrounded by a tread pattern (grooves) on a tread. These blocks contribute to transferring of a driving force and a braking force, steering stability on snow and a muddy road surface, and improvement of drainage. However, chipping of blocks is apt to arise due to running on a rough road and aged deterioration, and if the chipping occurs, performance which the tire originally has is hardly exhibited.
NOTE the emphasis on improved block crack resistance as a key tire rubber parameter. Tire companies do a lot of testing we might not realize is done, but it is.
HIGH BIO-RENEWABLE CONTENT INKS AND RESINS

The present invention provides novel anionic modified rosin ester resins having a high BRC content, up to 100% BRC. The resins of the present invention are useful as emulsion, dispersion, or solution resins. High BRC content pigment grind vehicles, coatings, and finished inks can be prepared using the resins of the present invention. Advantageously, the finished inks of the present invention have equal to or superior properties compared to current commercially available inks sold as sustainable products, but having little to no BRC content. The present invention represents a significant step towards developing sustainable inks and coatings that are better for the environment.
This is an excellent patent/invention in my opinion because it appears to be quite practical and useful.
